Super Pit

Kalgoorlie, Western Australia

One of the largest open cast mines in the world, the Super Pit is a 600 m deep gold mine.
And last year was a winery.

That's a huge gold mine, the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow considering the historical high of gold price today! Nice shot. V

One appreciates the shear size of this 'hole' as you peer the heavy machine as a speck. V

the lengths, and depths, people go to in search of gold, made readily apparent...smart composition exploits the graphic nature of the scene so well..

Last year's shot seemed more tranquil.
That said, you learn something new every day. When I read the description I thought "I suspect he means 'open CUT' ", which is what I'd always known it as. (Although my own experience was more with opal mines than gold.) However apparently the terms open-pit, open-cast and open-cut are all interchangeable.
I like the inclusion of the yellow monster truck at the top of the road; that really gives it a sense of scale.
