Crepidotus mollis

Third Beach Trail, Forks, Washington

White Crep
A very commonly encountered pleurotoid species that grows in shelving clusters on downed hardwoods, especially alder in the PNW. Its caps are smooth to finely hairy and fan-shaped, flabby and and range in color from snow white to grayish white to grayish tan. Unlike oyster mushrooms they drop a dull brown to orangey brown spore print, often seen on underlying caps. There is no stipe. The gills are grayish white to off-white, close and narrow with edges usually even. There is no distinctive odor and the taste is bland. Edibility is not known.
