Dozens of residents living in a dilapidated building in Phnom Penh have agreed to vacate the premises due to safety concerns, a senior official announced.

Say Samal, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction, confirmed yesterday that residents of the Angkor Meanchey building had consented to leave over concerns for their families’ safety. He added that a working group from the ministry met with residents to discuss and reach a resolution.

Constructed in the 1950s at the intersection of Monivong and Kampuchea Krom Boulevards in Prampi Makara district, Angkor Meanchey appears solid from a distance. However, the interior reveals significant issues, including cracks and rusted steel, and many families still reside there.
