The 16th century Renaissance castle was built by a local nobleman John Saszowski von Geraltowitz.
It is an example of a noble residence with defensive qualities (location in wetlands, massive walls, moat).
The castle suffered severe fire damage in 1875 and was abandoned after it, creating a picturesque ruin (fashionable at the time).
It's been under the restoration and reconstruction process since 1995.
In the tower, there is a small museum with a very nice exhibition of medieval ceramics, discovered on the castle grounds during restoration works and archeological excavations.
