Cambodian policeman killed, foreigner injured in Phnom Penh car shooting

A Cambodian police officer was killed and a foreigner seriously injured, after their car was rammed by another vehicle which then opened fire in Phnom Penh last night.

The incident took place at in Sangkat Rolous, Khan Dangkor, Phnom Penh at 10 pm on August 27, 2024.

Authorities say that a Mercedes with license plate Phnom Penh 2BF-8168 was hit by several bullets formed from an automatic weapon after being rammed by a Ford pickup truck.

There were three passengers in the victim’s car, including a Cambodian driver who was seriously injured and died on arrival at Lok Sang Hospital while the front passenger was a Chinese national, who was seriously injured.

The deceased was identified as Kong Wutty, 36, a police officer serving in the Intervention Unit of the National Police, with the rank of lieutenant colonel and deputy director of the Rescue Operations Office.

The competent authorities of the General Commission of the National Police together with relevant institutions are conducting a very careful search to arrest the gunmen.
