I haven’t spent much time on PBase lately and I’ve missed viewing and commenting on your photos.
But family matters have taken priority lately. My wife broke her knee in late May. Ordinarily a
person with that injury would convalesce at home with instructions to not bear any weight on
the bad knee for six weeks. However my very intelligent and accomplished wife has been dealing
with the progression of Alzheimer’s for the past five years. Because she is unable to remember
how to properly care for her knee she had to stay in the hospital for over two months. She is
home now and is walking, albeit slowly and carefully. We get daily visits from Home Care
workers, but I am spending most of my time as a care provider.

Occasionally I get a bit overwhelmed and feel like the subject of this photo, but we are
developing new routines and things are getting easier. I have a lot less time for photography,
but obviously family comes first.

OMG Don! That is a lot to deal with. I sure hope she is getting better but the Alzheimer’s thing is really hard to deal with. We all miss your photography and comments, but hopefully things will soon get better. I am sorry it took me so long to notice this. I was gone from the 16th to the 24th so was not on PB much myself. Best of luck to you and your wife as well as the rest of your family.

This has such a special quality about it and is so powerful in light of your situation!
I am so sorry to hear this news! Best wishes that her knee will heal fully soon and that things will get better for her and you.

So sorry to hear about what has been happening in your life lately. I hope your wife continues to recover. I'm sure she will enjoy being home again. It is so difficult to watch a loved one go through Alzheimers, my dad had it. May you have more good days than bad and may you both enjoy the beauty of the area you live in. Take care.

Most definitely family comes first. You obviously love your wife very, very much.

There is a sad melancholy in the sculpture above. With all the heart break and stress forced upon you, I can easily see how you can relate to this statue when things start to feel overwhelming,

It's good that your wife has been able to return home to be with you. Despite the advancing Alzheimer's, I'm sure there is a part of her that can feel the love you feel for her, Hopefully, things will become easier as her knee heals more and you can set a more normal routing in her care, Meanwhile, don't forget to take care of yourself, too.

I am very sorry to hear about your wife. I hope she makes a fast recovery with her knee. I am dealing with a similar but different situation that has curtailed the time I have to take photos. Like you say family comes first. Wishing you all the best.

Lovely piece of sculpture, sorry to hear of your wife's accident, must be difficult dealing with that on top of Alzheimer's

the image does seem apt in visually representing the strain you must both be under...life can deal a cruel hand sometimes..

So sorry to hear about the reason for your absence from PBase. Sounds like challenging times for you. I hope your wife continues to recover and that you can find some time to take care of yourself.

Damn I'm sorry to hear all of that Don. I hope she has as speedy recovery as is possible, though I understand that the situation is more complex than that. Best wishes.
