You really, really need to head down to the Margaret River district if you like cellar doors, since you're not a huge distance from the area. It's not "all wine all the time" down there - there are plenty of other things to do as well, but while Margaret River does not claim to be the best wine district in the country, it does claim to be the most consistent. If you do decide to go down look up a guy named Sean Blocksidge; he does tours which cover food, wine, sights and experiences. (There are some shots from our trip in my galleries; some day I might get around to finishing them.) If you're not a fan of guided tours... well, that's the kind of client he specialises in. I think you'd both enjoy it.
