Last Fall - to my dismay - the Lake Frederick maintenance crew cut down all the Cattails --> Cat-o-nine-tails that provided homes for Red-winged Blackbird, Carolina Wrens, and at least two species of sparrows - Chipping and Song.
I had hopes the cattails would grow back, but after Tropical Storm Debby departed, I see why the cattails aren't retruning - - smothered out by all the dead debris left behind.
This third water retention pond needs to be left alone by the maintenance crew; cutting everything around it and allowing the debris to settle into the pool serves no use what-so-ever; and the debris may clog the outlet pipe in the event of a serious rainfall.
