Thomas Martin Staas from Koblenz in Germany was trained as a photographer in Leeuwarden working for E. Fuchs and others. In 1874 he opened his own studio at the address Willemskade. He proudly mentions that he is the photographer of His Royal Highness the King of the Netherlands up until 1890. In 1895 Staas returns to Koblenz.
