Funningur church

Almost every village in the Faroe Islands has a church and they are always located near the ocean so that the fisherman could see the church from afar.Photo of the old church in Funningur (population 51)

There was an old saying here in Newfoundland, Canada, attributed to fishermen:
"When you can't see the lighthouse, steer for the church"
Probably why the churches here as well were usually near the ocean and in plain view from the water.
