Standing at the end of Skólavörđustígur street and in front of Hallgrímskirkja church is one of the best-known landmarks in Reykjavik, the statue of Leifur Eiríksson.
It is believed Leif Erikson was the first European who set foot on North American soil, concretely on Vinland (today's Newfoundland) around year 1000.
That's also written on the monument's back side, which was presented to Iceland from USA in 1930 in honor of thousand years of world's first Parliament - Althing which was formed in 930.
