Martelarenplein is the square in front of Leuven train station. Spatially, the square consists of two parts, separated by a public road, which, however, since the construction of the Oostertunnel, is only accessible to local road traffic, bus and bicycle traffic. Before the opening of the tunnel, the square was cut in two by the Ring of Leuven. Martelarenplein is located at the end of Bondgenootlaan , the busiest shopping street in the city although it is the nearby Diestsestraat that was immortalized with a place on the Belgian version of the famous game Monopoly .
