May Day has its roots in astronomy. Traditionally, it was the halfway point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice! In ancient times, this was one of the Celtic cross-quarter days, which mark the midway points between the (four) solstices and equinoxes of the year. Nature has awakened from her sleep.

Obviously, our local hummingbirds are back! This one got into our Solar Room. Guess my flowers indoors are tempting. This is not the first hummingbird to visit our Solar Room for nectar.
A big problem comes in getting them to go back outside again. For some reason, hummingbirds do not seem to be as "smart" as other bird visitors when that maneuver is concerned. They need help to direct them to an open door to escape back into the wild. Without harming a frightened hummingbird, this help can sometimes be difficult. But these sweet, little birds cannot exist if they don't get returned to the wild.
I have no idea why birds like to quickly "sneak" inside when the door to outside gets opened. But, for their sake, we do our best to show them the way back out. With encouragement, the above hummer eventually found his way back outside.
