Well, it turns out that my hangar mates are packrats. Bloke dug around and found a perfectly good King KY-97A with tray sitting on the shelf. While he set up to bench test it I busied myself trying to repair the latching mechanism which is pictured here. It is a little over an inch long and the screw had lost its washer and cotter pin. I think this is a #4 screw. Unfortunately, the #4 washers I had were a little undersized so I had to drill the hole out to 0.140 inches. This is no cakewalk. I ended up using a lock wire pliers to hold the washer and drilled it out with the right sized drill bit. That turned out to be the easy part. The screw has a hole in it to take a cotter pin, but I opted to use some lock wire and bend the ends. It took me about half an hour to install the wire, most of which was finding out how to hold my tongue just right. Any, the radio tested just fine on the bench, now its time to install it on the airplane. Bloke says it should be a snap. Loosely translated that means don't hold your breath.
