The Baudelostraat was created in 1900 after the decision of the city council to demolish this working class district, a kind of Patershol, and to extend a wide street through it.Before 1900, a narrow street ran from the Vrijdagmarkt to the Ottogracht, the Druifsteeg, later Struivelstraat and now, widened, called Baudelostraat. The most important architect who was active in the Baudelostraat was Jacob Gustaaf Semey (Ghent 1864 – Bruges 1935). Also local councilor in 1902-1903. Semey was a much sought-after architect at the turn of the century.
