M17 and the power of PixInsight

This image was created today (14-May-2024) from 63 raw frames acquired 12 years ago with an early Canon DSLR, the Digital Rebel XT, attached to an 8 inch f/5 newtonian reflector. I posted the result of that imaging session on this site at that time, and I am posting this reprocessed image for comparison. Here's a link to the first image:

Today's reprocessing took advantage of the astrophotography image processing power of PixInsight, with the following tools that were not available 12 years ago:

WeightedBatchPreProcessing  (standard PixInsight script)
DrizzleIntegration  (standard PixInsight process)
GradientCorrection  (standard PixInsight process)
SpectroPhotometricColorCalibration  (standard PixInsight process)

BlurXterminator  (PixInsight add-on process from RC-Astro)
NoiseXterminator  (PixInsight add-on process from RC-Astro)
GeneralizedHyperbolicStretch  (PixInsight add-on process from ghsastro)

Canon EOS 350D ,Orion 8 inch Newtonian Reflector

other sizes: small medium large original auto
