I can see the appeal in capturing these. It can be tricky to get a good depth of field across two subjects. You have done pretty well.
The lighting is quite flat though which has caused the gum nuts to lose their shape. Moving either your subject or your light source can help you to create depth
in your subject so you can emphasize curves and put shadows back in so you can see how deep an area is. Some creative lighting on these would improve the image.
