Not for Voting (Like Myself at 7yo, and Re Paul)

Paul, I need to thank you for this outdoor challenge. On the surface this seems fairly simple, but in truth there's often great depth in the simple. Personally, the challenge has cased me to look more deeply at my surroundings and I've come to think that there is probably more bio-mass now even with me in a deeply Urban environment, than there has ever been in this part of Southern California ever.

There has been some jokey-jokey fun over time that I don't have the lawn expanse and trees like Dave, (but then I don't have the Deer problem either), the neatly trimmed lawn like Paul or the lovely cactus garden as does Jim, I don't even have an outdoor barbecue like Alastair....

But I looked around, (because Paul so commanded) I do have and posted briefly a small cactus garden also...I have my cypress trees, tons of shrubs, and, for the heck of it, at the start of the Challenge, like when I was a child I planted in cups a potato, (an unusually ugly plant BTW), and an onion...which has grown spectacularly...other items are being added, in my kitchen window....all due to Paul and so a thanks is due.

Paul, I will give you a more complete shot soon...so you can kind of get an idea of what they are...or at least what mine are. Traveller

I’m very very curious to see a photo of your Cyprus tree. Is your “Spider Tree” entry what you are believing to be a Cyprus? Also wondering if you know the sub species because the bald cypress we have is probably 40 to 50 feet tall and possibly more. I may need to measure to be sure it’s that high. Paul

Maybe you really mean Knees....if that is the question, one on the root structure...then no, I have none. Never have had any. Traveller

Do you mean Leaves, branches, instead of "knees?"

The problem with my Cypress trees is having them topped ever 5~7 Years...I think they clean or trim the interior also. I am always afraid of them blowing over onto my my 2nd story roof. They grow like the dickens...

Let me go a little deeper....they can be terrible fire hazards....they do accumulate lots of dead small branches (?) their tiny leaves....and a neighbor 1 block away, did not top or clean out the debris...(again, I only do this every 5 years or so, lazy me), but in any case, his trees burned spectacularly....and burned down half his house also. It was very sad to see.

But again, I radically top and clean them, again, not often because I am cheap and lazy....but if they are 18ft tall, I cut them down to 9 feet, maybe 8, they are decorative, but their real function is as a shield from the often busy street.

Best Wishes, Traveller

No charge for the sarge. I remember starting veggies like this as a youth.

I generally look for a topic that we’ve not done recently and not sure we’ve ever done quite this variation previously.

I do have to ask since you mentioned cypress trees, we have one at my daughter’s house beautiful tree but it produces knees like crazy. I have to axe or saw them out at minimum yearly. I should probably get on that in the near future since they are adding up again. Does yours produce them too?? Of course it does, dumb question, they all do it’s part of the root structure and survival mechanism. Paul
