My SAK was confiscated when I flew home from Norway in August 1986. Except it wasn't. SAS put it in a container, and it was returned to me at JFK. I still have it. It's in my car's floor console bin, ready to assist when needed.
Pre TSA days! When I returned home from the Army I had bought a stiletto style switch blade knife in a small village near the base and it was confiscated at the Rhein Main air base customs out protesting center. They went alphabetically and having a last name of Alters meant I was one of the first in line and they tore everything out of my duffle bag during the search. All the 20 or so search stations were full from the A B C last name guys so the others just breezed right through the line unsearched until a station opened up and the process started all over again.
Why I felt I wanted or needed that blade is still a mystery to me. Seems like it cost 10 to 15 bucks or 30 to 40 D Marks at the time. Paul
I used to have a couple of them. At least one of them was given to the TSA in a preflight check.
I did a lot of international travel and they often came in very handy.
I used to have one. I probably still do, but I haven't used it in ages. For me, the bottle openers, corkscrew, and toothpick were the most useful. I did use the tweasers once for removing a tick.
