I have been working with my astrophotography equipment quite a bit lately. The last time I went out I got skunked. No photos of the targets I was looking for. Additionally I noticed that the stars in the photos were mis-shapen. I had a good look at the UV filter on the lens and noticed that there was a fogging that couldn't be wiped away. I replaced it with a plain glass filter. I also realized that when I was aligning the camera mount I used the wrong star and the resulting alignment sent everything off resulting in missing the targets completely. So tonight I was ready. I found that the mount was able to track well for two minutes so I could get longer exposures.
So I set up on the Horsehead Nebula and started taking subframes. The moon rose and that added so much background illumination that I decided to call it quits. I will see what I got tomorrow when I get home.
