tumbleweed

along Hwy 209, south of Tucumcari

the prairie region here is the southern end of the Great Plains, and the flat ground experiences fierce winds...tumbleweeds, some quite large, are frequently seen careening along at impressive speeds

A very efficient way to distribute seeds and cause grief to drivers

How cool to see this! I have heard of tumbleweed but had never seen one before.

Wandering plants! After all they too have the right to move and travel the country...

Tumbleweeds serve as symbolic reminders of the harsh arid prairie, which often overwhelm fences as depicted in your fabulous photo....V

A great symbol of our arid prairie. Nice find.

Things are good as long as they're in the slow lane.

Great shot of something I've never seen. Looks like the fence was no match for it.

Neat environmental shot. Not even the guard rail can keep them out.

Nice shot, but they can be a problem for farmers.

Something of the atmosphere of a great western movie with these tall windswept grasses...V.

The tumbler is so iconic to the Southwest. Seeing it dance across the highway was delightful! VVV~

Another well know denizen of the midwest and southwest, the tumbleweed. This one is well portrayed in its native environment. ~BV~
