Can of Corned Beef

Quail Creek, AZ

The can was necessary to transport the processed corned beef both in time and in distance from the meat processing plant.
BTW, I wanted to try this for some hash I wanted to make without having to cook a whole corned beef for dinner and later use the left overs.
This stretches Pauls' topic definition - and I know he will like that. :-)

I've always thought of corned beef as multicultural. I like it very lean, because that's what my grandmother always bought or ordered in a deli (yes, I'm outing her for not cooking it herself). My father was the only one who enjoyed corn beef hash. I'm glad he introduced me to it. Otherwise I might never have tried.

Some Irish and some Italian. My grandfather used to march in both the St. Patrick's Day and Columbus Day parades. I had a good view of both when I worked in a building overlooking Fifth Avenue. A clever coworker secured a window washer's key, so we could hear the parades as well as see them.

On Saint Patty's day, everybody has some Irish in them for the corned beef and cabbage. That lasts though the left overs being made into hash. :-)
Eggs on top on certainly optional.

Dave does this mean you have some Irish heritage in your bloodline too. Paul

I like corned beef and would probably be attracted by the lower sodium label.

Who else likes to eat it with a fried or poached egg on top? Irish eggs Benedict?

I’m proud to say I’m a Heinz 57….
My wife’s paternal grand mothers maiden name was Flynn.

When I was telling Paula about your Irish heritage the first thing she said was “I knew there was something about him that I liked, now it makes sense“.

Maybe this St Patties day we will consider the corned beef, cabbage and Guinness beer. Ok that's taking it too far, I can’t stand Guinness beer. Paul

I am 25% Irish. My wife is 100% Irish; previously a Kennedy. She occasionally reminds me that my kids are "more than 50% Irish". Obviously, we celebrate St Patty's day with a corned beef dinner.

Glad you posted this to remind me, might prepare this on my next camping trip. (Car camping, backpacking days are long over).

Do you have Irish heritage? We may have told you this Paula’s grandmother was 100% Irish and immigrated from Ireland in the 20s making Paula 25 % Irish. She was eligible and she applied for and received an Irish citizenship certificate. ☘️ Paul

I agree - if you have had both, you know they are quite different in both taste and consistency.
While I prefer making my hash from a home cooked corn beef (think St Patty's day), This is pretty good for camping. It is small to pack, and easy to prepare with potatoes, onions, and green pepper.

Not Spam! I’ve had both and there is a distinct difference between them. Corned beef is a higher quality of meats than spam. Have not had either in quite some time but I enjoy the corned beef hash. Great camping meal! Paul
