Ramariopsis kunzei

Point Reyes National Seashore, California

White Coral or Ivory Coral
This edible white-spored member of the Clavariaceae family is fairly widely distributed in mixed forest habitat. It is terrestrial, with extensive dichotomous branching with U-shaped branch loci. The branches are only a few millimeters thick and end in blunted to rounded branch tips that may yellow a bit in age. The branches may acquire pinkish tints in age. The branches are fairly brittle and arise from a rudimentary rooting stipe, with stipes that sometimes are fused. There is no odor and the taste is mild.
