Pseudo-scalenohedral etched fluorite (ca 2 cm length) from a famous find at the Cäcilia Mine, Wölsendorf, Bavaria, Germany

Detail of a 14 x 10 cm specimen with numerous crystals.

The unusual apparently scalenohedral fluorite crystals from the Cäcilia Mine have long excited attention. They result from etching of initially cubic crystals with small remnants of the initial cubic faces preserved at each end. These were found in 1961 and 1963 on the 210m level of the mine.
