We were leaving the I-Max theatre
and came across Del on his day off.
(Mel's cousin twice removed on his mothers side.
Not as much fun as Mel but a good bear
to have in your contact list. You never know. Right?)
We don't see much of Del because
he does sleep studies on bears for the Government
so he spends a lot of time in the woods doing his thing.
Seems like it would be a tough job.
He says it's good most of the time,
but having to wake up early in the spring
to do interviews with grumpy, hungry
bears has a down side.
He says it helps to show up with a box
of doughnuts with extra frosting, a jar of honey
and an Amazon gift card!
(Yes! Amazon does deliver to remote Ranger stations
but they have learned to toss the boxes out as they drive by.
Most of the time it's Kraft Dinners or Nutella.
Squirrels slathered with Nutella is big in northern BC. Who knew?)
We gave him a handful of loonies and toonies
so he could get some Poutine for dinner.
A fed bear is a happy bear!
