It is the most wide river in the Iberian Peninsula and passes through several autonomous communities. In the area of Catalonia it gives its name to Terres de l’Ebre and is where it meets the Mediterranean Sea.The towns that surround it have got a strong relationship with the Ebre river because, historically, during the Spanish Civil War, it was very important during ‘’La Batalla de l’Ebre’’, because it was a key factor to continuing the fronts. At the end of the Delta de l’Ebre is the estuary, which is formed by the sediments that the river drags to the sea, giving rise to the Delta de l’Ebre, being a protected area.During its passage there are several islands, such as ”Illa de Buda” and ‘Illa de Grŕcia”.
