19 Thankful for Her Patience and Understanding

Boulder

Whenever I indulge and get a new lens or camera, my first, and favorite, test subject is my ever-patient and understanding wife. This was one of the first shots I took with my new, and very self-indulgent, RF 50 F1.2L lens. That's a truly amazing lens, to match a truly amazing woman.

According to online DOF calculators, the DOF is around 1cm. But that's probably rounded. I think it's a bit less than that.

Yes, I was looking at the closest eye (her left). I may be fooled by the reduced pixel size, and I have view set to large (not original). Combined with the v small DOF and surrounding hair which is not in the focal plane my brain said "soft".
For the subject distance, what does the DOF calculate out to be?

The left eye (her right) is definitely soft! The closest eye is actually pin sharp, but I don't know if you can tell that with a 1200 pixel downsized version. Viewing the full size version in Lightroom, and zooming in, the closest eye is sharp, and the tip of her nose is slightly out of focus. The DOF at F1.2 is razor thin. I wanted to see what F1.2 looks like, and I liked the result.

Great subject. But it looks a bit soft to my eye, esp her left eye. Focus looks to be on the tip of her nose.
