On the left of the Franciscan monastery, there is a small garden, surrounded with the wall and tall arches.
The Cura Sanctuary (Sanctuary Nostra Senyora de Cura) is one of the most famous and popular sanctuaries in Mallorca.
It was erected in Mount Randa (Puig de Randa, 543 m above sea level and the highest point in central Mallorca as well as the sacred mountain), near the cave where Blessed Ramon Llull found illumination.
Ramon Llull was a writer, theologian and philosopher living in 13th/14th century (1232-1316).
He left his royal household when he had a spiritual awakening and changed his life abruptly, from his hectic and libertine youth.
At the age of 30, he converted after having five times the vision of Christ crucified.
He sought solitude on Randa Hill in 1274 and spent nine years living as a hermit.
In 1449, Lullian scholar Pere Joan Llobet founded the first Lullian school of grammar.
In 1501, The Courts of the Kingdom of Mallorca founded a school of grammar that remained in opereation until the 19th century.
The church was built in 17th century, in 1668. The convent and the inn are located nearby.
Cura became synonymous with three things: devotion to Mary, devotion to Llull and education.
