Vincent van Gogh est parti à l'été 1887, laissant derrière lui la chaleur de Paris. Il a travaillé avec les peintres Paul Signac et Camille Pissarro à Asnières le long de la Seine au nord-ouest de Paris. Signac et Pissarro peignent dans le style pointilliste. Van Gogh l'a utilisé pour ce rendu des sous-bois, avec la lumière du soleil qui filtrait à travers le feuillage et tombait sur le sol sombre.

Vincent van Gogh took off in the summer of 1887, leaving the heat of Paris behind. He worked with the painters Paul Signac and Camille Pissarro in Asnières along the Seine River northwest of Paris. Signac and Pissarro painted in the Pointillist style. Van Gogh used it for this rendering of undergrowth, with sunlight filtering through the foliage and falling on the dark ground.
