The Tower of Canyamel was built in 1237 by the Montsó family, for surveillance and as a refuge from the frequent attacks of the corsairs and invaders.
One of the most important defensive towers in Mallorca due to its age and good state of preservation. It is of Moorish origin and its development dates back to the conquest of Mallorca by Jaime I (13th century).
It consists of three floors and a central fortress tower 23 metres high.
It is an excellent vantage point overlooking the bay of Canyamel and a large part of the municipal areas of Capdepera, Artą and Son Servera.
After the introduction of sugar cane cultivation (second half of the 15th century), the name of the building was changed from its original one (Torre d'en Montsó) to the current one.
Today, the tower, surrounded by farm buildings, houses a small museum opened in 2009 and owns many musical and artistic events.
