Birding at the Dump

Ottawa

Back in the day, birders were allowed into the local garbage dump in autumn to look for rare and uncommon gulls that often made their way there. Such access has long since been closed, but back then it was a favourite stop on the local birding circuit!

Digitized from an old slide.

Reminds me of early 70s in Idaho Rockies, the dump, just like this, thick with gulls! I could never understand why 'seagulls' were so far from the sea!
