Canyamel is a small, relaxed resort town on the far northeast coast of Mallorca.
It has a very pretty beach - Playa de Canyamel with both sandy and rocky sections.
It is surrounded by mountains and pine trees, creating a sheltered, scenic environment.
There is an influx of fresh water to the beach via the Torrent de Canyamel river, which runs 8 kilometers from the nearby ancient town of Arta.
The name of Canyamel is derived from sugar cane and honey in ancient Latin, as the sugar cane used to be grown in the area in the 18th century.
