Eastern Veil Nebula

Cataloged as NGC 6992, this is the eastern part of the Veil Nebula, a supernova remnant, all that remains of a massive star that exploded about 8,000 years ago. Like the nearby Western Veil Nebula, which I photographed last year, this object is about 2,400 light years from Earth. The diameter of the entire supernova remnant is about 110 light years. The Western Veil Nebula lies outside of and above the frame of this image.

This image was prepared from 63 three minute exposures made with a ZWO ASI071MC Pro camera attached to a William Optics Fluorostar 91 telescope. The images were acquired on the nights of 23-Sep-2023 and 24-Sep-2023. Image acquisition was performed with N.I.N.A. software, and image processing was performed with PixInsight.
