Canyamel is a small, relaxed resort town on the far northeast coast of Mallorca.
It has a very pretty beach - Playa de Canyamel with both sandy and rocky sections.
It is surrounded by mountains and pine trees, creating a sheltered, scenic environment.
There is an influx of fresh water to the beach via the Torrent de Canyamel river, which runs 8 kilometers from the nearby ancient town of Arta.
The name of Canyamel is derived from sugar cane - the "cane of honey" (canya de mel), as the sugar cane used to be grown in the area since 15th century up to the 18th century.
