Fern leaf stomata

The elongated white spots (Stomata) are essentially valves for controlling the input/output gasses used for Photosynthesis. On each side of the Stomata, you can see a curved structure, this is the guard cell. It expands and contracts, opening or closing the Stomata as needed. These are always on the under side of the leaf.
