The first tower (front) was built in 1539. Little did the villagers know that centuries later there would be the need for a high-rise hotel which would block its light. So the lantern was be moved to the top of said hotel which technically makes it the highest lighthouse on the German coast, at 117 meters. The hotel still boasts that it is the lighthouse which books the largest number of overnight stays worldwide.
