17 Twelve Dollars an hour? What is this, New York?

Denver, CO

Seems a bit steep. Even Marilyn isn't sure she can afford those prices.

I love the airport horse, especially at night with the glowing eyes. I only ever see it from a moving car or bus, though, so I've not had a chance to get a picture. Were you looking at Colorado College, or UCCS? I don't know if there are other colleges in Colorado Springs. Colorado College has a great reputation. I have several friends who went there, or whose children went there. They all loved it. Colorado Springs itself, while beautiful, has a very different character from the Denver-Boulder-Fort Collins part of the state. We joke about them, and they joke about us. Our jokes are funnier, though. :)

My last visit to Colorado was to look at a college in Colorado Springs with my son. We rented a car at the airport, and I didn't pay any attention to signs regarding public transit. I noticed that big horse, however. Maybe it'll appear in a challenge someday.

That sounds like a good bus system.
But traffic was still heavy when I drove in and around Denver to Colorado Springs.

The only time I drive to the airport is to pick up a friend or family member who is flying to Denver. When I'm flying, I always take the bus.

There's a bus stop 100 yards from my house, where I can catch a bus that goes all the way to downtown Denver (Union Station) in 40 minutes without changing. From that same bus stop 100 yards from my door, I can catch a bus that goes all the way to Denver International Airport (DIA) without changing, in about one hour. There are also several different buses that will take me from either that stop, or one another 200 yards away, to the CU Boulder campus, and beyond that to downtown Boulder. The bus system here was a very refreshing change after living in Dallas and Houston. And everyone in Boulder rides the buses. In Dallas or Houston, you only ride the buses if you don't have a car, or are a college professor.

Does it go to the airport?

When you say “about 40 minutes to downtown” is there a nearby bus stop within walking distance you can catch that goes all the way to Denver without changing buses? Paul

Denver does have a light rail system. They've been talking about extending it to Boulder for years (at least as long as I've lived in Boulder), but it hasn't happened yet. The buses between Boulder and Denver are quick and easy, though. About 40 minutes from my house to downtown Denver, and they run every 15 minutes. And the local transit system has had free bus travel all July and August this year, to try to cut down on traffic pollution.

Scooters to the rescue! Just leave yours in the middle of the sidewalk when you're done with it. I blame the owner of the funky Subaru. Is there actually light rail, or are the tracks and wire just for decoration? Other than the airport, I haven't been to Denver in over 50 years. Not the usual mountains-in-the-background shot. Just as gritty as Detroit (which looks almost pristine in Jim's shot from the river).

I like your comment and wording of an "urban eye". I hadn't thought about that before, but we all have one; or more.
You also have a "theater eye", perhaps a subset of "urban"
Who am I ? Perhaps an "analytical eye" ?
Paul - a "practical eye" ? an "engineering eye" ?
Dave - I haven't been able to place him yet. An "animal eye" ?
Alastair - a "collegiate eye"; includes a study of people.
Dunlin - a "country side eye"

What is interesting to me...even before reading the title or commentary...my urban eye went automatically and sought out the sign...and I went, poo-poo, like everywhere else. Traveller

We found the parking expensive in both Colorado Springs and Durango.
