I finished reading a book today. Big deal, I hear you say. When I was in school (HS, College and Grad School) I would read constantly. There was always a paperback book in my hip pocket. Since then not so much. I did a lot of reading when I was tutoring, but that was all text and technical books.

So why the sudden change of heart and why Treasure Island? I have been reading up on our upcoming trip to American Samoa and Independent Samoa. Robert Louis Stevenson spent the last four years of his life on the island of Upolu in Independent Samoa. His house has been transformed into a museum and it is a popular spot to visit. I realized that Treasure Island was never on the reading list in school. I figured it would be a good idea to read it and so I did. It is short and I knocked it off in about 6-7 hours. It was very good. Quite an adventure.

Today's photo is a screen grab of a cover of the book. It is interesting because the first American edition (1911) was illustrated by N.C. Wyeth, father of Andrew Wyeth. The cover illustration is of Jim Hawkins (the hero of the story) being dragged along in search of the treasure by Long John Silver.
