We're lucky that we don't have to drive anywhere to see the local town Fourth of July fireworks display. We can just sit out on our deck and watch.
Of course, the trees keep getting taller and taller; so, I'm not sure how many more years this will be possible. When we first moved here, we could see 4 different public displays in different directions, but now the tall trees (which have grown over the years) cover up our being able to watch three of them.
This year, the closest town's display was so so. Not as good as last year's. Some highlights, but not a lot of them. This was one.
Meanwhile, our neighbors a few doors away made up for it by setting off their own private fireworks that were almost as big as the town's show. Since our area is supposed to be under draught conditions, that might not have been the wisest decision on their part. Nevertheless, every year, those neighbors throw a big party (with a DJ and the works) and try to outdo the town's show. Fortunately, our other neighbors across the street weren't home this year. They usually drink beer all afternoon and then shoot off rockets that land in our side yard. That can be a bit unnerving.
I wish shooting off private fireworks was illegal here like it was Back East when I was growing up. Some of the fireworks sold here are close to professional size and can be rather dangerous for both the folks lighting them and for where they land.
Anyhow, we enjoyed being able to sit on our deck and watch the same firework's show that we used to drive to town to see. No parking or traffic woes.
