The Nikolaikirche, built in 1180, is all the more impressive because the unique architectural style of the first turn of the millennium can still be seen impressively here, despite some renovations. The imposing Nikolaikirche served as a parish church for the people of Eisenach and as a monastery church for the Benedictine nuns. The three-aisled Romanesque basilica with the Nikolaitor characterizes the image of Karlsplatz and leaves an incomparable impression at first sight. The church dedicated to St. Nicholas got its current appearance at the end of the 19th century. Wartburg builders must have been involved during the construction of the church.
