En 1776, Benjamin Franklin, entreprend un voyage en France pour appeler les français à soutenir les américains dans leur guerre d’indépendance. Il est prévu qu’il débarque dans le grand port de Nantes, mais des forts vents contraires se lèvent alors que son navire atteint les côtes bretonnes et le 4 décembre il doit faire escale à Saint Goustan.
Port de la ville d’Auray, Saint Goustan était très actif notamment au XVIème siècle quand il développait un grand courant d’échanges avec le pays basque. C’est désormais un simple port de plaisance.

In 1776, Benjamin Franklin undertook a trip to France to call on the French to support the Americans in their war of independence. He is expected to disembark in the great port of Nantes, but strong headwinds are rising as his ship reaches the Breton coast and on 4th December he has to make a stopover in Saint Goustan.
Port of the city of Auray, Saint Goustan was very active especially in the 16th century when it developed a great current of trade with the Basque country. It is now a simple marina.
