La rivière d’Etel débouche sur une côte basse et sablonneuse perpendiculaire à la houle dominante, ce qui entraîne la formation d'un banc de sable dénommé « barre » qui se présente comme une dune sous-marine en forme de barkhane, qui se découvre partiellement à marée basse.
Cette barre rend la navigation difficile, voire impossible à certains moments par fort courant de jusant ou par vent contraire. même par temps calme cette « Barre d’Etel » reste très dangereuse.
La photo a été prise quelques minutes après l’inversion des marées ce qui explique le calme qui règne sur les flots.

The Etel River leads to a low, sandy coastline perpendicular to the prevailing swell, resulting in the formation of a sandbar, which looks like an underwater dune in the shape of a barkhane, partially uncovered at low tide.
This bar makes navigation difficult, if not impossible at times by high ebb current or by contrary wind. Even in calm weather this «Barre d'Etel» remains very dangerous.
The photo was taken a few minutes after the reversal of the tides which explains the calm prevailing on the waves.
