Barbie mania

A new display at the Barbie Pond in a private Northwest DC garden. They must have been celebrating the release of the new “Barbie” movie on Friday. I’m not a Barbie fan, but I think it’s interesting to see the latest thing these people come up with.

Right on trend!!

Because I have an older sister, I have the original Barbie (in excellent, like-new condition). I also have the original Midge and Ken. However, over the years, Ken's flocked head went bald. Just like my husband. LOL!!!
I also have the original Barbie "dream house" and her pink car. Plus, most of Barbie's original wardrobes. Except for the dolls, all of Barbie's "stuff" is in storage in our basement somewhere. Obviously, I used to be a major Barbie fan when I was a kid. Now, some of the retro Barbie's I still have are on display as nostalgia, especially the earliest ones. My much older sister never had any interest in Barbie. Thus, she never touched the dolls. I was lucky there. So, the original Barbie and her friends that I have now are close to mint. Not mint mainly because there are no original boxes. Plus, Ken went bald; even with not being played with.

I don't think I want to see the movie. To me, Barbie should be a little girl's "dream", not a human actress.
But a lot of movie goers obviously don't agree.

The red Barbies are interesting and I wonder what they represent. They are so much different than the partying Barbies and Kens. V

it is extraordinary that Barbie is a constant in current news...nostalgie perhaps, or an innocent comfort in troubled times..
