Yes, I use a lightning detector. I also used a neutral density filter.

Zap! I forget whether you use a lightning detector. If not, damned impressive. Either way a stunning shot.

I understand. Yes, position can be everything. My goal has been to have them appear to strike Mt Wrightson. But no go yet this year.

And yes, I was under the patio cover in the "shadow" of a support post to minimize the rain showers hitting me.

Jim I wasn’t referring to changing the direction of your camera setup by rotating the camera on the tripod I was saying if you had took 1 step to the right with the same angle the the lightning would have appeared to strike your cacti.

As you say no way to predict when and where the next strike will hit. I guess it’s also possible you were under the patio cover backed up to or up next to a wall making any change impossible. None the less this overwhelming is my favorite of the challenge and I predict it will do very well in the stretch at voting time. Paul

This is truly exceptional in mood and effectiveness...very good, good, good, but it maybe also should be noted that that this is also muy apocalyptic in tone....(grin...but true), Traveller

If I was aimed more right, I would have missed the next shot I posted.
And this is my widest lens.
You just never know - the bolts will sometimes be on the leading edge, sometimes on the trailing edge of a storm; and sometimes in the middle.

BTW, I also missed a few that were in a more distant storm behind me.

Impressive! How cool would it have been if you had setup your tripod 1 step to the right. Paul.
