Freesia plants originally came from the Cape Colony in South Africa. It is also known as the 'Cape
lily-of-the-valley'. The flower received its name around 1830 from the botanist Ecklon, a collector
of plants in South Africa. They are members of the iris family and are cherished for their
fragrance, beauty and diverse colours.
