Black bear

vicinity of Algonquin Park

This is a yearling black bear, about the size of a large dog. It was totally focused on foraging for food, digging in the ground, or grabbing mouthfuls of vegetation. It has a couple of ear tags which help biologists keep a record of bears in the general area.

That would be quite a sight - at least for a foreigner like me. Do you see them often in these areas? I see that the Park is large and embedded in an even greater forest area.
