Macqueen's Hairstreak

caterpillars, Jalmenus pseudictinus, Lycaenidae
Watsonville, north Queensland

Caterpillars attended by the Common Froglet Ant (Froggattella kirbii). The butterfly will only lay its eggs on several species of Acacia AND only if this species of ant is present to protect its caterpillars.

Macqueen's Hairstreak is a localised and little-known species but, fortuitously, its stronghold is close to my home town.
