This handsome sculpture was seen in Edinburgh Castle.
This Lion and a horse in the same style was seen in front of the War Memorial.
The following information was found by David Gray.
I love the fact that they were carved by a woman.
The Scottish National War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer.
Guarding the entrance to the Memorial, on the right, a lion holds a shield bazoned with the union flag, and to the left a unicorn on whose shield is the National flag of Scotland (St Andrew's Cross).
Both carved from stone by Scottish sculptor Phyllis Bone working under Pilkington Jackson and Lorimer.
Bone trained as a sculptor at the Edinburgh College of Art under Alexander Carrick and found fame specialising in animal sculpture.
During her time under Carrick she twice travelled to Paris, under a travel scholarship.
She was the first woman to be elected a full member of the Royal Scottish Academy.
She also produced the animal sculptures on the Zoology Building, Edinburgh University, and the Royal Arms on St. Andrew's House.
