15 The moon Lies Fair....

The sea is calm tonight.
The tide is full, the moon lies fair
Upon the straits; on the French coast the light
Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand,
Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay.
Come to the window, sweet is the night-air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

Here in southern Arizona, we have a couple of large, and different groups. There are a lot of photography clubs which are more topic driven which only need cameras and post processing equipment - like we deal with. Topics cover the usual gambit of landscape, people, nature, portraits, etc.

Then there are a few astrophotography clubs. We have beautiful clear night skies and the Tucson area even has dark sky regulations. As T said, the equipment becomes more complex and more expensive. Our DSLRs and lens and computers are probably a $5k investment. An astro photographer has that, and then adds another $10 - 50k for his telescopes and tracking tripods. And time. More than what I want to invest.

I have a friend that is very good at astrophotography....but it is expensive, a tracking tripod, etc...it all adds up....but he has done fantastic work...in my opinion.

As I think about it, I couldn't do his work, and I don't think he could or would want to do my more more casual photography....these are just different mind-sets.

I’m waiting for someone to capture Saturn. You’d need a decent scope, dark sky and have to get up early in the morning to capture it. We have a designated dark sky area in the Flint hills where we go camping but this year camping is out of the question this year. Paul

I like it.
I have been waiting for the "moon shot" -- so far away.
