This very large,heavy-bodied robber fly (about 20 mm in size) at first glance looks like a giant hornet. It even has longer antennae than flies usually have, to further mimic the look of a wasp. However, this is a fly, it cannot bite or sting. Presumably its mimicry scares off would-be predators!
